    FAQs

Can the video doorbell stand alone or does it only function with a SimpliSafe® system?
Yes. Video Doorbell Pro can be used on its own. It’s also designed to work best with our latest SimpliSafe® home security system for whole home protection from the outside in.
How do I know if my current doorbell setup is compatible with the SimpliSafe® Video Doorbell Pro?
Video Doorbell Pro is a wired doorbell and is compatible with analog/mechanical chimes. Digital chimes are not compatible at this time. To find out if your door chime is mechanical or digital, the simplest method is to listen to the sound your current doorbell makes when you ring it. If it makes the traditional “Ding Dong” sound, your current doorbell set up is most likely mechanical and therefore compatible. If you hear a different tone or melody and it’s longer than a “Ding Dong” then you most likely have a digital chime — and therefore not compatible with the SimpliSafe® Video Doorbell at this time.
Where should I place my Video Doorbell Pro?
The recommended mounting height is 4ft from the ground. Place the doorbell camera on entry/exit points into your property such as your front door.
Does the doorbell have night vision?
Yes. The video doorbell has auto night vision which you can toggle On/Off/Auto in the Settings menu. In night vision, video appears in black and white.
How does the Video Doorbell Pro stand up against inclement or extreme weather?
This doorbell camera is weather-resistant and winter and rainstorm ready.
When will my Video Doorbell record?
Recordings will begin automatically after an alarm is triggered and can also occur if there is movement in front of the doorbell camera including the system off state. Recordings are available with select monitoring plans.
Does the Video Doorbell have two-way talk?
Yes. With two-way audio, you can say hello to your local mail carrier or alert unwanted guests that they’re not going unnoticed — even when you’re not at home.
How do I change my doorbell’s settings?
You can customise the Video Doorbell Pro to best fit your doorbell’s locations. Settings such as Motion Events, Sensitivity Levels, Setting up Activity Zones, Picture Quality and Mic & Audio can all be adjusted in the SimpliSafe app. The steps are simple. Go to the SimpliSafe app and click on the three horizontal lines at the top. Click "Settings" and then "Camera Settings." Next, select the camera whose settings you’d like to change.
Do I need to be on a WiFi network when using SimpliSafe cameras?
Yes. All SimpliSafe cameras require WiFi for set up and use. Our cameras are designed to work with 2.4 GHz WiFi networks in order to provide wider coverage and penetrate walls. All WiFi networks support 2.4 GHz. Being on WiFi allows you to connect cameras to your system, stream live video, view and download recordings*; access the SimpliSafe app and control your system from anywhere; enable Video Verification*, arm your system using Google Assistant or Alexa* and retrieve and download necessary firmware updates for your system and devices. *with select monitoring plans
What can I do if I’m getting too many motion notifications?
If you’re getting too many notifications then it may be to do with the sensitivity levels. This can be easily adjusted in the SimpliSafe mobile app or web app by switching the settings between High, Medium and Low. The default setting is Medium. You could also try angling the camera a different way if it is pointed towards a high-traffic area with an angle bracket. A bracket was included in the initial pack but if you need another, please don’t hesitate to contact our customer support. You can also disable the motion notifications without turning off the doorbell press notifications. Finally, you can set-up “activity zones” so that the camera only recognises motion in certain areas on your property.
What features does the Video Doorbell Pro have?
    Features:
    • Motion Zones: A notification will be received when any motion is detected. To help avoid unnecessary alarms you can set up “activity zones” and instruct the sensor to ignore motion within only that area. This is useful if, for example, you live on a main road and wish to ignore pedestrians walking on the pavement in front of your house.
    • Notifications: Video Doorbell Pro will send notifications to your device through the SimpliSafe app when someone presses the doorbell button and when motion is detected by the camera.
    • Motion Detection: Using video analytics and passive infrared, the Video Doorbell Pro can detect motion in its field of view, offering more granular motion detection options to let you better control the quantity and types of notifications you get.
    • Advanced video motion detection: People only detection. Drastically reduces false motion triggers and gives more reliable notifications.
    • Activity Zone: Determines the zone in which the Motion Sensor will detect movement. Activity Zone selection only works during the day.
    • Night Vision: At night time, infrared light will be emitted to maximise visibility in the dark.
    • Over-The-Air Firmware Updates: Any firmware updates will be automatically downloaded and installed through the Wi-Fi connection. If you wish to use the camera during this time you still can, the update will pause until you are finished.
    • High Dynamic Range (HDR): This is a technique that is used to improve the realism of digital images by simultaneously capturing and combining the bright and dark areas of an image. By doing this, it is able to create a contrast similar to that of the human eye.
    • Live Streaming: Live Streaming is available for all customers - it does not require a subscription and it means you can view your camera through the app anytime, anywhere.
    • Two-Way Audio: When you are viewing the camera’s livestream, simply hold down the microphone button to speak. Release the button to hear what is happening through your doorbell.
    Video Recording:
    • Without a SimpliSafe home security system, the Video Doorbell Pro records during these events:
